Angostura bitters is a concentrated bitter made from herbs and spices from the House of Angostura in Trinidad and Tobago.
The mixture of grass, roots, leaves and fruits dissolved in alcohol constitutes Angostura bitters. The recipe for this aromatic bitter has been strictly secret since 1824. The taste of Angostura bitters includes notes of caramel, cloves, cardamom and tree bark, giving it a sweet and spicy character.
Angostura bitters come in different varieties, but the most common are the classic and sometimes the orange variety.
